David E. Barrett

David E. Barrett, 73, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Friday, October 25, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Roger Gillming officiating.

Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given in his memory to the Bushnell Lions Club. The arrangements for David have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

David Earl Barrett was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on March 28, 1946, the son of Earl and Edith (David) Barrett. He was raised and attended school in Kimball, graduating in 1964.

Following high school, David enrolled at Milford and studied carpentry. David was married to Donna Jean Morgart on January 30, 1966 in Kimball.

After graduating from Milford he moved back to Kimball and went to work on the family farm with his father. In 1968 they moved to Belle Creek, Montana where he worked in the oil fields. In 1970 they moved back to Kimball and David worked in construction and agriculture. They moved to Bushnell in 1971 where he managed the elevator until taking over the family farm in 1979. He worked at Clean Harbors from 1995 to 2003. David continued to farm and retired in 2007. David and Donna moved to Kansas for a short time. They later returned to the family farm. David was living with son Doug at the time of his death.

David loved farming and raised wheat, cattle and hogs. He was a longtime member of the Bushnell Lions Club and served as their treasurer. He was also a member of the Bushnell Fire Department and Trinity United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his sons David (Doug) and wife Michelle Barrett of Kimball, NE., Dennis E. Barrett of Burns, WY., Duane E. and wife Jennifer Barrett of Gothenburg, NE., and Donald L. Barrett of Gordon, NE; brother Ron and wife RoJane Barrett of Harrisburg, NE; sister Earladeen and husband Gordon Walker of Kimball, NE; grandchildren Jessica and husband Ryan Eggli, David J. and wife Kiersten Barrett, Cecilia Biberos, Andrew Barrett, Kaitlynn Barrett and Taran Barrett; great grandchildren Bryce Eggli, Madison Eggli, Keaton Barrett, Kole Barrett and Kenli Barrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Janice Pfaff and daughter-in-law Victoria Barrett.
