Pine Bluffs Hornets Sting Kimball Boys

The Pine Bluffs boys came to Kimball this past week boasting an enviable win-loss record of 14-1 and went back home with one more win giving the fans a view of just how talented they are.

The Hornets came out on top 78-51 in a display of long range shooting skills as they netted 15 treys on the evening led by Justus Golding with 6 treys and a game high 20 points.

The Hornets had 9 players score with 3 in double figures. Michael Shain finished with 16 points and 2 treys, Andrew Fornstrom had 15 with 3 treys, Brian Steger 9 with 3 treys, Donte Jacobsen

3 with his trey, Brad Shmidl 7, Hunter Jeffres 2, Reed Thompson 2, and Doug Fornstrom 2.

The Pine Bluffs boys also shot 7/11 at the foul line, and held their own fouls to just 8. It was senior Parent Night for the Kimball boys, and coach Luke Dea started his five seniors on the roster after they were introduced, along with their parents, prior to tipoff.

The Horns gave their usual good effort but just couldn’t match up with the scoring of the visitors. Golding hit a long trey at the buzzer of the 1st quarter to give Pine a 19-13 lead.

At halftime the Hornets led 40-27 and Michael Shain nailed a long 16 footer right at the horn ending the first half of play. The Hornets would outscore Kimball every quarter en route to

the win and ended the contest just like they started it, with one more 3 point fielder off the fingertips of Donte Jacobsen.

Coach Tyler Kimzey also has 5 seniors on his roster but starts only 2 of them. Basketball has been good for a while for the Wyoming club, and it will be good for at least another season.

Kimball had 8 players score but had only one player in double figures with Izaac Reuter high with 10 points along with 6 rebounds and a team high 4 assists. A good night for Corey Travis with 9 points and a team high 8 rebounds. Brendan Walker had 8, Beau Hanks 7, Brady Kilgore 6, Sam Cajero 5 with 1 trey, Brayden Tyan 4, and Zane Anthony 2. Hanks also had 2 treys on the night.

In team stats for the Longhorns, they shot 23/50 from the field for a good 46%, but were only 3/15 on 3 point attempts for 20%, and spent little time at the foul line making 2/3 for 67%.

They pulled 28 rebounds, had 2 blocked shots, 12 steals, 16 assists, 10 fouls and too many turnovers with 29.
