Kimball Girls fall to Bayard in Sub-district 1st Round

The Kimball girls saw their basketball season come to an end with a 44-32 loss to Bayard in first round play of the C2-12 sub-district tournament. Kimball had scored two victories over Bayard during the season, but the third time is the charm theory that came into play for Bayard as they pulled a mild upset over the Lady Longhorns. With the loss, Kimball closed out a somewhat disappointing season, with a final record of 6 wins and 16 losses. Injuries to key players also upset the plans of Coach Chauncey Pedersen and his girls who were thinking of post-season honors.

Madison Wynne scored the opening basket of the contest on a lay-in, but that would prove to be the only lead Kimball would have, as Bayard tied it up and then led the balance of the game. It was a night where nothing seemed to go right for the Kimball girls as they had 27 turnovers, shot a poor percentage, going 13/60 from the field for 22% and 1/19 on 3 point attempts for 5%, and shot 5/14 at the foul line for 36%. They did pull 29 rebounds to stay pretty much equal with the winners who charted 30 rebounds. Kimball also had 7 steals, 4 assists and 22 fouls.

Bayard had trouble scoring too, going 8/24 at the foul line and shooting 32% from the field with just two treys on the night. Kylie Stewart and Avery Kildow led the winners with 10 points each. Jessica Whitebear had 9 and Sierra Sauer 8, Lizabeth Marker 5 and Shaley Petersen 2.

Sydney Biesecker was high for Kimball with 10 and had the only 3 point field goal for Kimball. Sydney also pulled 5 rebounds. Hannah Biesecker had 5 points and 6 rebounds. Justine Heeg had 5, Lacey Klinkhammer 2, Jenna Greenwood 4, Madison Wynne 3, Carli Wurdeman 2 and Sam Bemis 1.

In the other first round pairing, Bridgeport won over Hemingford 57-12. In the sub-district championship game, Bridgeport won over Bayard 62-39 to advance to the District playoff game, where they will meet North Platte St. Pats tomorrow (Friday) night, with the winner advancing to the State Tournament.
