Farmers Day 2015: Farmers Day offers something for everyone

The 89th annual Farmers Day promises fun for everyone. The annual event will have activities Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"We have a lot of favorites, and some exciting new activities," committee member Assunta Calise said.

The weekend events kick off Friday with a soup supper at the senior center from 5-7 p.m. The salsa tasting and beer garden will be held 6-8 p.m. at the event center, and the craft fair will also be held there 5-9 p.m.

At dusk, the movie in the park, "Big Hero Six," will be held at Gotte Park. Also, from 6-9 p.m. a cruise night will also be held. To wrap up Friday's festivities, the band "Southern Fryed" will perform at Beer & Loathing.

A few of the Saturday morning offerings include the annual pancake feed sponsored by Panhandle Coop at the Eagles, the dignitary coffee, the fun run beginning at Second and Chestnut, and a craft show in the event center.

Check in for the new pie baking contest will be at 9 a.m. at the corner of Second and Webster and special recognition awards will be presented just prior to the beginning of the parade, at the intersection of Second and Chestnut.

All those events begin before the parade, which runs the traditional route down Second Street and begins at 10 a.m.

The annual free hamburger feed will be at the intersection of First and Webster beginning at 11:30 a.m., at which time the parade winners will also be announced. What has the hamburger feed missing all these years? Pie. Keep Kimball Beautiful is sponsoring a pie contest, and slices of the dessert will be sold at the hamburger feed as well.

The senior center will also host a hamburger feed following the parade as well, for those not wishing to brave the long lines and the hamburger feed downtown. Those wishing to participate in the senior center hamburger feed must sign up by 5 p.m. on Sept. 24.

Following the parade, the car, truck and motorcycle show will open at Gotte Park. At the library, there will also be a dollhouse exhibit and the annual Friends of the Library book sale in the back room.

Throughout the afternoon, the activities at Gotte Park include kids games an train rides, a grease pole contest, a horseshoe tourney and the Historical Society's gun raffle.

The demolition derby is back at the fairgrounds and begins at 3 p.m. The will be followed at 5 p.m. by a Western Nebraska K-9 demonstration at the ball park. At 6:30 p.m., the Kimball Community Theater talent show will be held at the Kimball Museum. Saturday night ends with a block party, which includes live music.

The fun also continues Sunday with the Kamikaze Air Show at the Kimball Airport from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The horseshoe contest continues at Gotte Park at 1 p.m.
