Coyote 4x800 relay team breaks school record

The Potter-Dix boys 4x800 meter relay team had a record-breaking performance at last Tuesday's Best of the West meet in Scottsbluff.

The Coyote team of Jake Johnson, Samuel Bogert, Cameron Purcell and Cooper Hicks broke the school record in the event with a time of 8:27.96. They beat the old school record by close to five seconds. Although Potter-Dix set a new school record in the event, Sidney won with a time of 8:26.15. It was the first time this season that the Coyotes have not won the 4x800 meter relay.

Potter-Dix also had several impressive individual performance at the Best of the West. Alexus Rozelle won the girls discus with a top toss of 112-10. She edged out Sierra Betancur of Scottsbluff, who took second with a throw of 112-03. Rozelle also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 36-00.25, while teammate Cortney Lewis took ninth with a throw of 32-10.75.

Ryley Hicks finished fifth in the pole vault at 8-0, while teammate Payton Franklin took seventh place at 7-06. In the high jump, Anna McLaughlin finished sixth with a height of 4-08.

The Potter-Dix boys' top individual finish went to Kelsey Rozelle, who took third place in the high jump. He was just two inches behind Hunter Thompson of Pine Bluffs, who won the event.

Coby Hicks tied for fourth place in the pole vault at 11-0. Josh Ellis of Alliance took the top spot at 13-05. Johnson also finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.91, just over five seconds behind Sidney's Hayden Lienemann, who won the event.

Cooper Hicks added a sixth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles at 42.81 seconds, while Drew Gilliland of Mitchell won in 39.37.

The Coyote 4x400 meter relay took fifth place on Tuesday. The team of Cooper Hicks, Johnson, Bogert and Purcell finished in 3:39.35. Sidney took the top spot in 3:28.22.
