Bertha Leora Greathouse


Bertha Leora Greathouse, 83 of Gering, ended her life journey to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church in Gering with Pastor Gary Hashley officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Dix Cemetery, Dix, Nebraska.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel with family present from 5 to 6 pm. Memorials may be given to Camp Rock or Prairie Haven Hospice. Tributes of sympathy may be left at http://www.geringchapel.com.

Bertha was born on August 18, 1930 in Douglas, Wyoming to Lisle F. and Mildred G. (Pearson) Dugan. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1950. She married Forrest B. Greathouse on June 24, 1951 at her parent’s home north west of Bayard. They made their home on farm near Dix, Nebraska for 40 years. They moved to Gering in 1990.

Bertha was a member of Calvary Memorial Evangelical Free Church in Gering. She loved her family and her church.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years Forrest Greathouse; daughters Colleen (Melvin) Brozek of Hay Springs, NE and Deanna (Randy) Flamig of Sidney, NE; son Allan (Nancy) Greathouse of Troutdale, OR; five grandchildren: Amber (Flamig) and Chris Craig of Rawlins, WY, Rachel (Greathouse) and Jeremy Muma of Gresham, OR, Ryan Greathouse of Troutdale, OR, Nicholas and Haley Brozek of Gering and Ashley (Brozek) and Eric Hongsermeier of Grand Island, NE and Jessica (Collins) and fiancé Brian McKay of Bridgeport, NE ; five great grandchildren: Brandon Collins-Flamig, Ashlynn Collins, Katelynn McKay, Collin Craig and Melia Hongsermeier; sister Karen Dugan of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Keith Greathouse, grandson Nathan, an infant brother Edwin and two brothers Russell and Richard and a sister Eleanor Alberhasky.
