Cancelled meet doesn't stop top Kimball pole vaulter

Tom Southard

Tom Southard/Western Nebraska Observer Despite no school on Monday, and students not required to partake of any activities, Kimball High senior Trent Rutledge wanted to work on his vaulting and coach Gene Mohr was glad to assist him in a late afternoon workout. Coach Mohr marked out various locations, top photo, on the run way for Trent to try and hit in stride. Here he points out where his top vaulter should be on his run-down. The end result is shown in the bottom photo, as Trent soars high in the sky over the practice bars. The Longhorns are hoping to get on the track at the Bayard C-D meet this Saturday, weather permitting. The Kimball Invite was called off due to stormy weather and no word yet if it is cancelled or if Kimball Athletic Director Ken Smith is still trying to find a postponement date.
