Assault Suspect Sought Care Here

He Came To Kimball After Conflict In Wyoming

On Thursday, April 18, Michael Hammond, Jr., 42 from Moorcroft, Wyoming, sought treatment at the Kimball Health Services emergency room for a stab wound to the face.

Medical and hospital staff are required by law to report gunshot and stab wounds to the authorities, and the Kimball County Sheriff's Office responded to the hospital after being notified. After an investigation and questioning of Hammond, it was determined that the stabbing had not occurred in Nebraska but happened in Campbell County, Wyoming.

The Kimball County Sheriff's Office communicated with Campbell County and the Division of Criminal Investigation, where a domestic violence incident was under investigation.

Meanwhile, Hammond was transferred to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff for further treatment, an arrest warrant was issued from Campbell County, Wyoming, for Hammond. The warrant listed four felony charges, including strangulation of a household member, aggravated assault, confinement, and attempted second-degree murder.

After Hammond's release from the hospital, Scottsbluff Police Department arrested him and he is being held in the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

The affidavit obtained by Clair McFarland at the Cowboy State Daily news website stated that Hammond had fought with his wife, beating her with a rake, throwing her across the room, and smacking her in the back with a chair. The beating was said to have continued for hours, and she was unable to phone for help.

Hammond's wife begged for water and he held her down, face-up over the sink. The reports said she grabbed a knife and stabbed Hammond in the neck area. When the police arrived, she was covered in bruises and blood and Hammond already had fled. On Monday afternoon, Hammond remained in the Scotts Bluff Detention Center.

In another twist to the story, the Kimball County Sheriff's Office also arrested Kevin Bolejack, who provided transportation for Hammond to Kimball. There was a warrant out for Bolejack, and he was driving under suspension.
