The weekend us indoor sports fans have been waiting for has arrived as the High School Winter Sports get underway this very weekend.

It actually starts tonight (Thursday) with the Kimball High Wrestlers hosting Bayard on the Kimball High home mats with action to begin at 6 p.m. The wrestlers then get one day of before they head to Akron, Colorado for Tournament action this Saturday (Dec. 5).

The Kimball High basketball teams, both girls and boys, are also at home for their season openers hosting their own Kimball Four-Team Invitational Tournament this Friday and Saturday.

Play begins at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon with the Morrill girls and Dundy County-Stratton girls clashing, followed by the same two schools boy’s teams at around 4:30 p.m. The Kimball and McPherson County girls will play at 6 p.m. followed by the same two school’s boy’s teams at around 7:30 p.m.

Play continues on Saturday with the losers of Friday’s girl’s games playing at 1 p.m., followed by a losers bracket game between the two losing boy’s teams at 2:30, followed by a championship game for the girl’s winners from Friday at 4 p.m. and the boy’s championship game to wrap things up with a 5:30 start time.

On top of the high school schedule, there is freshman basketball on Monday (Dec. 7) at Sidney with game times at 4 and 5:30 p.m. but be sure and check this as the girl’s may not be playing their game Monday. Also Kimball Junior High girl’s basketball at home with Bayard Monday (Dec. 7) at 3 p.m. The Junior High wrestlers are at Mitchell Monday with a 1 p.m. start time.

Kimball had 3 medalists at the Perkins County Junior High Wrestling Tournament in Grant this past week. Jorge Sotelo and Steve Bateman both finished first in their weight classes while Connor McGinnis was 2nd.

Coach Klent Schnell said “This was a very tough tournament for us as we wrestled teams such as North Platte St Pats, Sutherland, Chase County, and Ogallala. All three of our medal winners wrestled very well.”

Season records are: Bradley Lee 6-6, Connor McGinnis 6-8, Zavyer White 5-10, Scott Hunsaker 7-5, Corey Gardner 0-13, Ethan Ratzlaff 9-7, Zander Hottell 1-8, Todd Hunsaker 6-4, Steye Bateman 12-2, Jorge Sotelo 3-2, Zarek Randles 0-4.

In Kimball Junior High girl’s basketball play at Ogallala the B Team came up short losing 27-24 with Emma Martin high with 10 points, Brooklin Golding had 8, and Sierra Rutledge 6. Ogallala also won the A Game 36-29 with Megan Spicer high for Kimball with 9, Jenna Greenwood and Alyson Holt 6 each, Sydney Biesecker 4, Raven Johnson and Bailie Brower 2 each.

At Pine Bluffs the B Team came up just short again losing 29-25 led by Emma Martin with 15 points, Brooklin Golding 6, and Jaydin Paxton 4. Pine won the A Game 36-16 with Jenna Greenwood high for Kimball with 7 points, Megan Spicer had 5, and Sydney Biesecker 4.
