Kimball 8th grade boys win SPVA title

Fueled by Brady Kilgore’s two meet record wins in the hurdles, the Kimball 8th grade boys track team emerged as team champions at the South Platte Valley Athletic Conference Junior High Track meet held at Imperial this past week. The Kimball boys scored 115 point to win the team title easily with Hershey a distant runnerup with 81 followed by Sutherland with 76.5, Chase County 66, Perkins County 59, North Platte St Pats 53.5, and Bridgeport 14.

A memorable day for Brady Kilgore as he won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.90 and the 19.5 meter hurdles in 26.10, both meet records as well as one new school record for the Kimball program. His third gold medal of the day came in the 4x100 relay where he ran a leg on the winning team along with Zane Anthony, Jake Jenkins, and Ethan Culek-Schaeffer with a time of 49.60. He also finished 4th in the high jump with a leap of 5’2.”

Other places for the 8th grade boys were Jake Jenkins 3rd in the 100 meter dash in 12.10, 4th in the 200 in 26.00, a 4th place in the 4x400 relay along with Izaac Reuter, Zach Wagner, and Zane Anthony with their time of 4:17.30. He also ran on the winning 4x100 relay event. Ethan Culek-Schaeffer ran 3rd in the 200 meters in 25.90, Zane Anthony 3rd in the 400 in 59.20, Izaac Reuter 2nd in the 800 in 2:22.20 with Zachery Wagner 4th in 2:23.70, and Wagner 4th in the 1600 in 5:27.52.

Kimball scored well in the throws with Aroon Flores 4th in the shot put at 35’1.5” and Corey Travis 6th at 32’9.” Three places in the discus with Flores 2nd at 103’3,” Travis 3rd at 98’7,” and Culek-Schaeffer 5th at 95’3.” Zachery Wagner won the long jump with a leap of 16’9.5” with Zane Anthony 3rd at 16’8.” Reuter was 6th in the triple jump at 32’9.”

The 7th grade boys were 5th in the team standings with 49 points as Chase County won with 139 points. Perkins County had 91, St. Pats 68, Sutherland 61, Kimball 49, Bridgeport 26, Hershey 23, Maxwell 8.

Jacob Withrow ran 4th in the 100 in 13.59 with Brayden Tyan 6th in 13.61. Withrow was 4th in the 200 in 28.30. Beau Hanks ran 5th in the 800 in 2:48.5, Todd Hunsaker was 6th in the 100 meter hurdles in 19.60 and 6th in the 195 meter hurdles in 34.10. The 4x100 relay team of Withrow, Hunsaker, Tyan and Brendan Walker ran 3rd in 56.50.

Kimball’s 4x400 relay team was 6th in 5:36.70 (members not listed). Brendan Walker was 2nd in the shotput at 32’6.5” and 3rd in the discus at 100’9.” Alex Flores was 6th in the pole vault at 6’0.” and Bradley Lee 5th at the same height. Withrow was 2nd in the triple jump at 3l’10”and Tyan 4th at 30’5.”

Chase County won the 7th grade girls division with 117 points with St. Pats 2nd with 116. Kimball was 3rd with 53 followed by Maxwell with 47, Hershey 42, Sutherland 34, Perkins County 27, Bridgeport 23.

Jenna Greenwood won the 100 meter dash in 13.60, was 2nd in the triple jump at 29’10,” 4th in the long jump at 14’2,” and joined up with Madison Wynne, Jazzy Harroun, and Sheridan Magninie to run 4th in the 8th grade 4x100 relay with a time of 1:01.60.

Kirsten Milam ran 6th in the 100 hurdles in 20.10 and 5th in the 195 hurdles in 36.20. The 7th grade 4x100 relay team of Kara Cole, Meagan Williams, Ambri Rogers, and Sierra Rutledge ran 4th in 1:07.10.

In the throws, Bailie Brower was 3rd in the shot at 27’11.5” and Carli Wurdeman 4th at 26’3.5.” Wurdeman won the discus at 70’11.” Brower was 4th in the vault at 5’0.”

Hershey was the team champs in the girls 8th grade division with 130 points followed by St. Pats with 94, Chase County 80, Bridgeport 73, Perkins County 42, Kimball 19, Sutherland 15, and Maxwell 9.

Madison Wynne ran 4th in the 400 in 1:11.80 and ran on the 4x100 relay team that was 4th in·1:01.60 along with Harroun, Magninie and Greenwood. Lexi Hoppes was 6th in the shotput at 28’6.5.” Kate Reader was a gold medal winner in the long jump with a winning leap of 15’0.”

The SPVA meet was the season finale for the Kimball Junior High track team and concluded a very successful season that shows lots of promise to the high school coaches as these young athletic individuals move into the high school ranks.
