Kimball Track Enters Busy Week After Strong Start

The Kimball Longhorns track teams head to the Bayard meet on March 28 after getting the 2024 season off to a good start with multiple strong efforts March 16 at the UNK B/C indoor meet and March 23 at the Morrill Early Bird meet.

It's a busy week coming up for the Horns. After Bayard, they're off to meets at Creek Valley on April 2 and Mitchell on April 4.

Kimball's junior high team also is in action, hosting a triangular with Pine Bluffs and Burns at 2:30 p.m. March 28 and heading to the Leyton invite April 3.

Here's Kimball Coach Tiffany Johnson's report on highlights from the varsity team's first two meets.

UNK B/C Indoor Meet

The Kimball High School track team started its season on March 16 at the UNK B/C indoor meet. They had a great showing.

Noe Trevino placed 3rd in the 200. Trenton Hottell was 1st in the 60 meter hurdles, followed by Peter Russell in 3rd and Landen Nunley in 6th.

Derek Russell placed 5th in the discus, Braxton Miller cleared 5'6" for 5th in the high jump, and Peter Russell cleared his personal best of 13' in the pole vault to earn first place followed by teammate Trevor Fuss in 2nd with 12' 6".

In triple jump, Braxton Miller placed 4th with a jump of 38' 6". Rachel Berger was 4th in the 60 meter dash.

Addisyn Olson jumped 5' in the high jump to earn 2nd place and 33' 5" in the triple jump to earn 1st.

Clarika Hottell placed 4th in the pole vault.

Morrill Early Bird

Kimball competed at the Morrill Early Bird meet on March 23.

Derek Russell set the Kimball freshman boys record with a throw of 128' 1" in the discus bettering the old throw of 126' 4" set in 1967 by Dave Stairs.

Wyatt Cords placed 6th in the discus.

Trevor Fuss vaulted his personal best of 13' to earn first place followed by Peter Russell in 2nd.

Noe Trevino placed 4th in the 100 with teammate Trevor Fuss placing 7th.

The 4x100 boys team consisting of Trevor Fuss, Derek Russell, Greg Bingham and Noe Trevino placed 3rd.

The 4x800 team including Braylon Miller, Eddie Duran, Kip Gillming and Conrad Kaminski placed 5th.

The women's 4x100 team consisting of Rachel Berger, Clarika Hottell, Addisyn Olson and Julia Winstrom placed 4th.

Clarika Hottell placed 5th in the pole vault with her personal best of 7' 6". Addisyn Olson placed 3rd in the triple jump.
