Coyotes Wrap Up Regular Season

The Potter-Dix Coyote basketball teams traveled to Arthur on Feb. 9, for games against the Arthur County Wolves. It proved to be the final regular game of the season for the girls team, as Hyannis cancelled their trip to Potter on Saturday due to the weather.

The girls were scheduled to match up against Banner County in the first round of the Sub District Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 13, while the boys team has one last game on its regular season slate at Hay Springs on Feb. 16. The boys team enters its Sub District Tournament next week, with an opener against Creek Valley on Feb. 20.

At Arthur County, the girls teams started first. Arthur County came out fast and put up 12 points while playing strong defense and holding the Lady Coyotes to just 4 points in the first quarter. Potter-Dix played a strong third quarter but AC won, 49-23.

In the boys game, a tight contest was decided late when the Coyotes were able to hang on for a 63-60 victory. Stellar performances were turned in by senior Brayden Kasten, who led all scorers with a 26 point effort, and sophomore Landon Gasseling, who scored 23 points on the night.

The boys team will finish the regular season against Hay Springs, a strong team with a 15-5 record.

If Kasten and Gasseling can repeat their performance agaisnt Arthur County and get more help from the rest of the starters, the Coyotes could have a chance at an upset to propel them into SubDistrict play.
