Trucker Trash A Problem On Exits

So Are Safety Concerns Of Big Rigs Parked Along Ramps

The exit and entrance ramps to Kimball are cluttered with trash and other types of waste from truckers who park there, creating a disgusting look for travelers getting off for business or pleasure in Kimball. The trucks also create a safety issue as cars and others enter or depart the interstate.

Any day or night, truckers park on the exit or entrance ramps even though the ramps are clearly marked as a no parking zone.

Signs clearly displayed on the ramps direct vehicles to the large truck parking area just two miles from the east exit of Kimball.

Both the Bushnell and Dix ramps have the same trashy and safety problems.

The Kimball County Sheriff's Office has been working on clearing the exit and entrance ramps, but it is a long established problem and will take years to solve.

The fine for improper parking is $40 plus court costs of $49, while the fine for 1st offense littering is $100 plus court costs of $49.

Although closed for years, Kimball Rest Area Westbound located 2.6 miles east of the Kimball Southeast Interchange Milepost 25 and Kimball Rest Area Eastbound located 1.3 miles east of the Bushnell Interchange at Milepost 9.83, are still listed on on http://www.nebraskatransportation.org.

The information states that the Kimball Westbound Rest Area contains 27.2 acres, parking for seven trucks and 26 cars, six picnic shelters, four picnic tables and a children's play area. Meanwhile, Kimball Rest Area Eastbound is said to contain 16.5 acres, parking for 7 trucks and 26 cars, eight picnic shelters, two picnic tables, a children's play area, and a summer tourist information station.
