Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Peter Vadal Anderson

Peter Vadal Anderson passed away from complications of West Nile Virus on September 2, 2023.

Pete was born April 15th 1949 to Robert (Bob) Anderson and Rose Marie Anderson in Casper, Wyoming. He was the oldest of 4 children, living in Gering for a short while and then Kimball, NE, where he attended school and graduated in 1967. He attended college in Kearney, NE, then started working for Ryder Truck Rental in Omaha.

While living there, he got set up on a blind date and met Karen. They dated for a short time and were married August 10, 1974, in Omaha. Soon after, his job transferred them to Houston, Texas, for a short while before his dad purchased the Ford dealership, Rainbow Ford, in Fort Morgan and they moved there to help run it. Pete worked there until 1983 and then owned and operated Credit Service of Morgan/Yuma County for the next 10 years.

They had their daughter Heather and son Shawn, and somewhere along the way Pete decided he needed to own some cows and thus started his farming and ranching adventure. Pete and Karen bought some land south of Fort Morgan and starting running a few cows and still worked in town until they sold the business and began ranching full time. They expanded their cow herd as pasture became available and soon decided they needed to purchase two pivots to provide feed for their cows. They have been running mother cows and farming corn and hay ever since.

Pete was a volunteer fireman when they first moved here and was a Rotary Club member. Pete attended Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Brush, where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, and was an usher and Eucharistic minister for many years. He was an active member of the Farming/Ranching community, on the Bijou Board of Directors for numerous years, and part of the Morgan County Cattleman's Association.

He and Karen spent their free time traveling to many countries and making many good friends along the way. His favorite thing was following his grandkids to whatever they were involved in: volleyball, basketball, wrestling and track; he could be found cheering in the stands. He welcomed his newest grandson and enjoyed traveling to see him and spend time watching him grow.

Pete is preceded in death by his father Bob.

Pete is survived by his wife Karen of almost 50 years, his mother Rose Marie Anderson of Kimball, NE, daughter Heather and husband Matt Kalous, of Fort Morgan, CO, son Shawn and wife Krissy Anderson, of Tualatin, OR, granddaughter Kelsey Kalous and grandsons Garrett and Eli Kalous and Robbie Anderson, brother Mike Anderson, sisters Daria Faden and Jina Anderson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Friday, September 8th, from 4-6 PM with recitation of The Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, September 9th at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 340 Stanford Street in Brush. Interment followed in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
