Potter-Dix Boys Win In MAC Consolation

The Coyotes calmed the Creek Valley Storm, taking third place in the MAC Tournament in Sidney January 19.

“It was a great win. We played about as best as we had all year. After that loss on Thursday, it felt good to come out and get a win,” Potter-Dix’s Jake Johnson, who scored 8 points for the Coyotes, said.

Potter-Dix took the lead in the first half with Bryant Knigge hitting two 3 pointers near the end of the first quarter putting the Coyotes ahead 14-12. These were just two of the five he would hit in the first half, ultimately scoring 27 points in the game.

“Tonight I was feeling it. People were finding me, and I was open. We just really clicked,” Knigge said.

The 2nd quarter saw the Coyotes defense force the Storm to throw the ball away and allow passes to be picked off by use of a full court press, keeping the Storm from catching up leaving the score 29-26 at half time.

Creek Valley was able to catch up to the Coyotes at the beginning of the third quarter with a 3 pointer by Sam Behrends off a pass from Dane McConnell tying the score at 29-29. Potter-Dix was able to take back the lead with a drive by Jake Johnson off pass from Tyler Magninie.

The Coyotes kept hammering away at the Storm from the three point line with Knigge and Magninie both hitting shots from the corner to put Potter-Dix ahead by eight points at 43-35 with 3:42 left to go in the third quarter.

In the end, The Storm wasn’t able to catch up to the Coyotes who were able to keep the lead, defeating the Storm 62-49.

“We’ve been really working on our transitions. We were able to look up court and see those open guys. We were able to get some easy baskets there in the second half,” Head Coach Chad Miller said.

Potter-Dix will next face off against Leyton January 22 on Leyton’s home court.
