Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Good morning! Here we are in August, and it has been hotter than a hoochie coochie! Cooling down some today and for a few days hopefully. See the forecast on Page A1.
I feel sorry for the fair livestock, and the kids working in this heat. They have all been busy for several days and today, Thursday, August 8th is FFA /4-H Market sheep and showmanship, and goat showmanship, plus a gymkhana at 5 p.m. and free BBQ at 5:30 p.m.
Tomorrow will be the FFA/4-H beef show and at 6 p.m. there will be a catch a calf contest, mini bulls and mutton busting and music at 6:30 p.m. by Steven Bankey & The Flat Land Band.
Saturday the livestock auction will go from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. with the rubber check race in the evening, followed by a dance in the arena until midnight.
Good luck everyone, have fun and be safe! In the valley from the 8-10th, Rescue & Reuse will be taking place at 3912 Avenue B in Scottsbluff between 11 a.m. and noon. Any durable medical equipment that you donate will be greatly appreciated.
That evening is Christian skate night at Zwetzig Skate House, held every second Thursday of each month between 6 and 8 p.m.
Music that evening at 18th Street Plaza will be provided by Roger Dodger and Loaded Dice at 6 p.m.
From Friday the 9th to the 11th, “Circle of Fire: Red Cloud’s War and the 18th U.S. Infantry” will be taking place as they celebrate Living History at Fort Laramie. It will be 1866 at 965 Grey Rocks Road, and the grounds will be alive with soldiers getting ready for action. There will also be candlelight tours in the evening.
The 9th is also the date for the Let it Begin Tour with Big Daddy Weave and guest, Jordan St. Cyr at the Five Rocks Amphitheater, beginning at 7 p.m.
Movies in the park at Frank Park will begin at 7:30 on the 9th. It is Free and, the movie is “Wish.” Also earlier in the day on the 9th, the annual Water Expo will be held at the NRD, 100547 Airport Road. Beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing to 2 p.m., plan on cooling off with water slides and more!
Bushnell Day is soon to come on Aug. 17 (see ad on Page A2), and so is school. The first day for students is the 19th!
The movie at the Midwest this week is “Despicable Me 4,” and it will show on the 9th at 1:30 p.m., on the 10th at 7 p.m. and on the 11th at 1:30 p.m.
Well, that is it for now. We seem to be surrounded with fires and I thank all who are working day and night to put them out and save us all from harm.
