New Hospital On Track For Dec. 22 Completion

Construction 85% Done At 61,200-Square-Foot Facility

Folks visiting for Farmers Day weekend will see a dramatically changed landscape on the old West Elementary School grounds.

Construction of Kimball's new $43.6 million hospital there is on track for completion by Dec. 22, Kimball Health Services community relations director Kerry Ferguson told the Observer.

Jeff Van Es, project manager with Haselden Construction, said last week that the project is 85 percent complete.

The facility is 61,200 square feet in size.

Finish work has begun, Ferguson said.

"Painters are hard at work, wall protection is going up, cabinetry is being installed and flooring is going in.," Ferguson said. "Interior finish work is being completed from north to south. Drywall work is wrapping up in the southern end of the building, including the clinic, lobby and rehab department."

Ferguson said that "with some spaces receiving their final touches, furniture styles and color schemes are going in place. On the outside, new signs are being put in place, concrete work is nearly complete on the south end, and crews are preparing to pour the new helipad in the northeast corner."

Project financing includes $34.2 million in USDA loans, $6.4 million in bonds approved by Kimball County, a $2.2 million fundraising campaign and several grants.
