Gravel Work Proceeds On Missile Roads

Truck Traffic Heavy In Southern Kimball County During This Project Stage

Pine Bluffs Gravel and Excavating is doing a resurfacing project for the Minuteman Missile access roads. Heavy truck traffic is expected to continue south of Kimball, although the work will only take place during daylight hours.

More than 40 gravel trucks are hauling gravel from the gravel pits just west of Kimball to the missile base roads in Laramie County, Wyoming, at the present time. Sites in Weld County have been completed, and they will start on the missile roads in Kimball County by the end of the month.

Most construction sites are two miles in length. These are the main haul lines for the missiles.

According to Lance Marrs from Pine Bluffs Gravel and Excavating, the project will move to Cheyenne County, and they will be using a gravel pit in Cheyenne County near Sunol.

Scale troubles have slowed down the project the last few days, so the haul is a bit longer due to using a different scale. Marrs is hopeful the scale will be repaired and re-calibrated by Tuesday.

Marrs said it is a lot of work, but the federal project has to be done by November. That said, area residents are reminded that this construction is a dynamic process and subject to change without notice.
