Mayor Addresses Approved Four-Way Stop

Kimball Mayor John Morrison updated the Observer on Tuesday about the City Council approving a four-way stop at 2nd and Chestnut streets.

Morrison said he "thinks everyone understands that we have a problem with traffic on Main Street (Chestnut Street)."

Morrison explained that it was on the agenda simply for discussion, but a motion was made, and then it was seconded. There was little discussion on the subject. It passed by a 4-0 vote.

Before a change is made at the intersection, Mayor Morrison said he wants a plan going forward. A plan has not been presented to the mayor as yet.

There will have to be warning signs and an enforcement plan before the four-way stop is in place, according to Morrison. Other options may be to lower the speed limit, or both lower the speed limit and have a four-way stop.

The intersection now has stop signs on 2nd but not on Chestnut.

Morrison said, "We may put up stop signs and it may work, or put up signs and it may be a disaster. Until we do it, we don't know."
