Revamped Police Department Keeping Busy

Two New Officers Join Force; Department Takes 209 Calls Since June

Chief Jose Ruiz of the Kimball Police Department reported at the Kimball City Council on meeting a lengthy list of happenings.

During the council meeting, the department also added two more officers to the ranks. New Kimball policemen include Sgt. Jose Barboza and Officer Colton McKenzie.

Meanwhile, the department is in the process of nine abatements regarding residential maintence, while 16 have been completed, and three abatements are with the city attorney.

In response to the semi-parking ordinance, the police have driven around town and contacted individuals violating the ordinance. They have provided a copy of the ordinance to those individuals and will follow up in a couple of weeks.

The police department has had 209 calls for service since June 6, and these ranged from animal calls to violent felonies.

Other calls included welfare checks and drunk person calls. They assisted probation with a search. There were two stolen vehicle calls, recovered stolen vehicle with multiple disturbance calls, six accidents and multiple traffic stops. They are investigating child abuse and possible animal abuse calls.

The police arrested a suspect in a potential scam of more than $10,000. The suspect had already been to Kimball to pick up a large amount of cash and was returning when the police were alerted.

The case may be linked to scams of large sums of money on the East Coast. The case may be turned over to the FBI.

Kimball police have assisted the Nebraska State Patrol, the Kimball County Sheriff's Office and WING with calls, arrests and search warrants.
