Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Every couple of weeks, Rose Curless stops by the Kimball Public Library to get some parsley, lettuce and tomatoes. The tomatoes are for her husband.
After gathering a bag of parsley, Rose said, "I have a recipe for Heart Tonic. You use some wine and some honey (along with the parsley) and cook that all up. Then when I start feeling a little something in my chest, I get a drink of it."
In addition to parsley, lettuce, and tomatoes, the library produces spinach, onions, cilantro, thyme, snap peas and Bok Choy.
This is all possible because the library purchased a Hydroponic Lettuce Grow Farmstand with Glow Rings with funds from the salsa tasting fundraiser at Farmer's Day. The tower arrived on Jan. 30 with plants ready to grow, and within 3 or 4 weeks, items were able to be harvested.
Over 60 people have partaken of the fruits of the library over the last few months.
