Pederson Resigns From Board

Kimball School Board member Chauncey Pederson submitted his letter of resignation to the board and Superintendent Trevor Anderson on Monday evening at the regular board meeting.

Pederson’s resignation will be effective May 31.

His letter stated, “I will be moving out of the district and will no longer be able to fulfill my position on the Board of Education.”

Pederson continued, “I am very proud to have been part of all the positive changes at Kimball Public Schools and feel confident that the district will continue in a positive direction.”

In the next action item, Anderson presented four options on how to fill the vacancy. They include an individual with the highest votes from a previous board election, a former board member who had not re-filed to run, recommendations from the board or patrons of the district, and an application process.

The position must be filled by July, and the board voted to use the application process. Applications for the board position may be found on the Kimball Public School website or by contacting a board member. A legal notice about the opening for the newest board member will appear in next week’s Observer.

Meanwhile, two quotes were received and approved, including a correction of the “Band Hallway” project to the previously approved quote and a security vestibule for Mary Lynch Elementary School.

Continuing with action items, the board approved the lease/purchase of a Thomas 48-passenger route bus projected to arrive next year.

Activities Director Darrell Howitt presented and explained to the board the 90-minute summer weights, conditioning and skills programs that will include high school and junior high students. Various times for the program are throughout the day.

Howitt also informed the board of plans for an annual Red/White Golf Classic Tournament on July 29 to raise money for the activities programs.

Anderson’s May information reported that Kimball schools would meet the NDE requirements for instructional hours for the 2022-23 school year.

Financially, Anderson’s report said that 49.18% of the budget is spent with 67% of the fiscal year completed. The actual year-to-date expenditures are $6,228,089.

In addition, the district’s Beef In School program has received three beef pledges to get the program going. A total of six beef are needed for the year. The board was appreciative of Michelle Barrett bringing the program to their attention.

The next regular board meeting is set for Monday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Kimball County Transit Service building.
