Days Of Rain, Mother's Day And Graduation

Banner County

Good morning, beautiful May! We are so thankful for the recent rainfall. More is predicted over the next few days, so hopefully there will be more.

This week is filled with school graduations and Mom’s Day. In honor of those moms, the Midwest Theater will be showing the movie “Mamma Mia!” over three days this weekend. Friday the 12th at 6:45 p.m., the 13th at 5:45 p.m. and on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. This is rated PG and a great movie.

Also on the 13th, which is Saturday, the National Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive will be taking place and you can contribute by filling bags of non-perishables or drop off single items to your local post office. Gifts will be kept in local food banks. If you would like more information, you may contact 308-641-9422 or 308-641-0119.

Back in the “old days,” people left these items in their mail boxes and we picked them up. Sometimes that was not so easy, like when you had a full bag and then added canned goods to it.

Meadowlark Hearth Farm in Scottsbluff located at 120024 Everett Drive is the place to go if you plan to participate in the Wildcat Hills Hike on Saturday, May 13th, because that is the meeting place to begin the hike. Meet at 3 p.m. and plan to hike until approximately 7 p.m. Bring water, snacks and wear appropriate clothing and shoes. More information is available at [email protected].

Also on the 13th there will be a Mom’s Day Weekend Outdoor 3D Archery Shoot. This will extend to the 14th, and both days will have a start time of 9 a.m through 4 p.m. This is at the Wildcat Hills Recreation area. Mom’s and kids under 16 will shoot Free. Another Greenhouse to experience is Greener Gardens Greenhouse, located at the NPNRD. They will be opening on Monday the 15th and will be open through June 30th. All of their sales go to local food banks also.

Back to Saturday, May 13th, for just a couple more events that you might be interested in. Uptown Scottsbluff will have crafters and vendors on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in honor of Mother’s Day and there will be an Earring Workshop at Papa Moon Craft Ciders. The workshop will begin at 5 p.m., and they are located at 230975 Road J.

On Tuesday, May 16th, the Midwest Theater will host a performance by Afrique en Cirque at 7:30 p.m. This performance is of an acrobatic and musical nature pertaining to those in Guinea.

We as a community have lost another long-time resident with the passing of Gwen ( Stauffer ) Bayeral. We send our condolences to the family.

Here at home it is a busy time at the school house as they wind down and get ready to call it a year.

The pre-K group will graduate on Thursday, May 11th, at 1 p.m. followed by the kindergarten students at 2:30 p.m. That same evening at 6 p.m. the high school Activities and Awards Banquet will be held. The following day will be a regular day of school, and Saturday, May 13th, will be high school graduation at 3 p.m.

On Monday the 15th, the elementary students will enjoy Patron’s Day and will receive awards following those competitions.

On the 16th the kindergarten and first grade will have a field trip, as will the third to fifth grades. There will be an AR celebration on the 17th. Thursday, May 18th will be the last field trip and it is for the pre-K.
