A Third Straight District Final

Potter-Dix Activities Director Cory Michelman contacted the Sidney Sun-Telegraph, a partner of the Observer, with a wrap-up of the Coyote boy’s basketball season, which we have re-printed in part for this edition.

The boy’s basketball team made their third trip to the District finals in a row this season. Potter-Dix got through the sub-district rounds of the tournament with wins over Creek Valley, 75-33 and Garden County, 55-36.

This year’s senior class ended their basketball career with a record of 63 wins and 29 losses, winning 68% of their games. Team records set this year included Zach Rotert breaking the season and career records for blocked shots. He had 99 on the season, which led the entire state, all-classes, and ended his career with 157. Luke Kasten added to his record list by breaking the career records for scoring, field goals made, 3 pointers made, rebounds and steals. His 1780 points and 1005 rebounds not only topped the Potter-Dix charts, but also placed him 73rd and 18th respectively on the NSAA all-time, all-class list. He made 627 field goals, 150 3 pointers and had 266 steals.

We would also like to thank everyone that helped make this another successful season at Potter-Dix. Parents, school personnel, volunteers and fans need to know that we could not do this without your support. We would like to especially give a shout out to all the people who took time to take tickets and run the concessions stand, Jeremy Williams and Warren Cico for helping with the clock and books, Dale Frerichs and Walter Kielian for driving the bus, and Kyle Brown, Sara Dana and Matt Jansen for PT services and keeping us healthy. Finally, thanks to the booster club and the Potter Sundry for providing snacks and drinks on some of the road trips.

We are looking forward to the challenges of replacing these 6 seniors next year. We are setting up some options for summer league and camps, including a 3 day skills camp in Potter toward the end of June for grades 3-12 if we get enough people signed up. Contact coach Michelman or Coach Coffman for details.
