Betty Barrett Hamzy

Betty Barrett Hamzy passed away February 20,2023, in Clovis, CA with her family by her side. A celebration of life will be held in Sacramento, CA on April 1, 2023. Burial will be on June 30 in Kimball, NE.

Betty Joyce Barrett was born in Kimball, NE on November 18, 1942 to Glenn and Erma (Frerichs) Barrett. She was joined in 1944 by Judy Ann, in 1945 by Robert Glenn and in 1954 by Glenda Christine. She went to Kimball schools from kindergarten and graduated from Kimball County High School in 1960. During her school years she sang with her sister Judy and in school and church choirs. She participated in Jobs Daughter, Camp Fire Girls, 4H and Luther League.

She married in 1961 and was joined by her daughter Troy Lynn. After a divorce she and Troy went to California where they met Bill Hamzy, his daughter, Leslie and his son, Kirk. Betty and Bill married on December 28, 1968. They raised their three children in Fresno, CA.

Betty divorced and moved to Sacramento, CA, where she was a Vice President for 19 years for Security Pacific Bank and four other financial institutions until she retired in 2005. She enjoyed her affiliation with Soroptimist International and the special friends that shared many dinners with her. During retirement she spent 17 years singing with Sweet Adelines in Voice of the Valley Chorus, Sacramento Valley Chorus and Velvet Swing Quartet. She loved the wonderful women she sang with.

She is survived by her sister Judy McMillian and Sister-in-law Jean Barrett, Stepchildren Leslie Peterson (Jeff), Kirk Hamzy (Ruth), grandchildren Kristen (Cal) Bleth, Jake Peterson, Vance Hamzy, and Alex Hamzy, great granddaughter, Brooklyn Alair Bleth, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Glenda, brother Bob and daughter Troy. She will be cremated and interred in the Barrett family plot in Kimball, Nebraska beside her mom, dad, brother, sister, and daughter.
