Coyotes Looking Strong

Potter-Dix's Coyote boys basketball team is winding down their regular season in strong fashion, with wins against Peetz, Arthur County, and a two-point victory over Arthur County. They have one more matchup in the regular season, against a tough C1 team in Chadron, before they start Subdistrict play.

On Feb. 7, the Coyotes hosted Peetz, and the game started as a tight battle with both teams matching their scoring, and Peetz taking a 14-12 lead after the first period. Potter-Dix picked up the offensive pace in the second quarter and were able to take a 28-26 lead at the halftime break. The Potter-Dix defense put the clamps down on the Bulldogs in the second half, only allowing six points on their way to 64-32 win. Potter-Dix had three scorers in double-digits, with seniors Luke Kasten and Karter Wittrock each with 14 points, and freshman Dylan Tabor with 13.

On Feb. 10, the Coyotes traveled up to Arthur for a match up with the Wolves, and had no trouble getting the win in a 64-30 rout. Luke Kasten ran wild, scoring 32 points and tallying 6 steals while senior Zach Rotert pulled down 12 rebounds and had 5 blocked shots. On Saturday, the Coyotes traveled to Hyannis and had a very tough battle with the Longhorns. The teams traded shots all game, but Potter-Dix was able to get the last shot to fall and hold on, edging the Longhorns with a 54-52 win. Junior Brayden Kasten led the scoring with 20 points while Luke Kasten scored 12 and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Potter-Dix improves to 17-3 on the year, and face one last challenge in the regular season against C1 Chadron and standout Xander Provance in Chadron on Friday. Then next week, the Coyotes enter Subdistrict tournament play, looking to punch their ticket to the State Tournament.

Potter-Dix Girls

Potter-Dix's Lady Coyotes, noted for playing tough defense but lacking in offense, closed their season out with a win against Creek Valley, then losses against Arthur County and Hyannis. The Potter-Dix team earned the number 2 seed in the D2-11 Subdistrict, and were scheduled to play the 0-18 number 3 seed Banner County Lady Wildcats on Tuesday. If they win, the Lady Coyotes match up against Leyton on Thursday.
