Longhorns Top Sutherland, Fall To St. Pat's

The Longhorns travelled to Sutherland for a rematch with the Sailors on Thursday. The Horns had played Sutherland in the SPVA Tournament and downed the 0-9 Sailors, 72-50.

After a win against Chappell, the Sailors are now 1-11 on the season.

But on Thursday, at Sutherland, Kimball once again handily beat Sutherland, 68-43.

Junior Brandon Paxton dumped in 24 points to lead all players, followed by Kyler Lusche with 15 points. Rounding out the scoring for Kimball was Ryker Behred with 10,Wyatt Cords and Trevor Fuss both tossed in 6 points, Braxton Miller had 5, and Darco Miller scored 2.

Coach Chad Miller said the “highlights include Brandon Paxton’s double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, Ryker Behrend 10 points on 83.3% eFG%, and Braxton Miller’s 8 assists tying him once again for 5th all-time “assists per game” and it also moves him into 8th all-time in “assists per season.”

On Saturday, North Platte, St. Patrick’s improved their record to 15-2 after a lopsided win against Kimball, 76-39.

Wyatt Cords led the Horns in scoring with 14 points, followed by Kyler Lusche with 13. Brandon Paxton was held to 5 points but brought down 7 rebounds. Freshman Ryker Behrend and Trevor Fuss had 5 and 2 points, respectively.

After the St. Pat’s game, the Longhorns season record was 5-12.

The Longhorns will be in action on Feb. 2 (Thursday) against Bayard at the Western Trails Conference game.

Then on Tuesday, Feb. 7, Kimball will host the Pine Bluffs Hornets at 7 p.m.
