Kimball 106-pound wrestler holds his medal and the bracket he progressed through to win first at the Mitchell Invite.
Again mother nature has impacted the Longhorn Wrestling schedule. The Longhorns were supposed to travel across the state to compete in Northeast Nebraska at the Plainview Invite. With a pending winter storm in Northeast Nebraska the tournament was cancelled.
The Longhorns were able to compete in Mitchell on Friday afternoon instead. The day was lead by returning senior 106 pound Matthew Johnson with a dominate performance. He had 3 pins on the day and the 106-pound championship.
Seniors James McGinnis and Trey Schindler battle 2 tough competitors from Chadron to finish in the runner-up position. Cody Brinkman had a tough draw on the day to finish 0-2. Kimball finished in 5th place out of 13 schools competing with 59 team points.
The tournament was won by host school Mitchell with 155 points.
Kimball next was scheduled to host a home dual on Tuesday against Burns/Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. It is also senior night where we will recognize Matthew Johnson, James McGinnis and Trey Schindler. The Longhorns will then begin their post season with our conference meet in Bridgeport on Thursday.
