Man, Did We Get Some Snow ... And The Cold!

The Banner County News

Good morning and man do we have the snow. And the COLD, and hopefully some moisture! It is February in Nebraska after all.

With two years of really nice winters the cold and snow are welcome reminders for the most part, the snow anyway!

This evening, February 2nd, the third season episodes 7 and 8 of the series “Chosen” will be shown at the Midwest Theater at 7 p.m. and again the following day at 1 p.m. Also on February 2nd, there will be an open house at the Western Nebraska Arts Center for the new showing titled “Images 2023 Photo Exhibit.” The open house is from 5-7 p.m. and the public is welcome and invited.

More entertainment for you if you have a notion to head toward Alliance on Sunday the 5th. At the Eagles Club there will be a Music Jamboree from 5-7 p.m. and the public is welcome and invited.

The following day the Alliance Public Library will host a Valentine’s Day build-a-box for grades pre-K through 5th. The time is from 4-5:30 p.m. and if you need more information please call 762-1387.

Well, due to the severely wind blown drifts, causing blocked drive ways and roads school was cancelled both Friday, January 27th, and the 30th. Good thing for the safety of everyone involved.

Picking up where they left off last week and beginning a new month, today February 2nd will find high school band students participating in Bridgeport at the MAC beginning at 9 a.m. and the high school boys basketball team staying here at home and challenging the Potter-Dix team. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

They will take on Minatare the following day, also at home, with a game time of 5:30 p.m.

Saturday will see them traveling to Sioux County to play at 1 p.m. and the high school wrestlers competing at 9 a.m. with South East.

A day of rest on Sunday, the 5th, and then on Monday the 6th the junior high basketball team will take on Minatare here at home at 2 p.m. while the students who will be participating in the High Plains Honor Choir will be in Chadron both the 6th & 7th enjoying that event.

Tuesday the 7th will see the Speech team competing at Gordon and the high school girls at Sioux County/Crawford. If you need more information on any of these activities please call 436-5262. Good luck and safe travel to all of you.

The weather also was the reason for the re-scheduled annual meeting at the Harrisburg Community Church, which had been planned for last Sunday. The new meeting date is set for February 12th with a pot luck following church services and prior to the meeting. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend.

So far the Ignite Youth Group has not been able to meet, once again because of the weather. They plan to meet this Wednesday, February 8th at 6 p.m. and all junior/senior high youth are invited.

Well that is all for now, have a safe week and stay warm until next time! Barb Cross at 436-7152.
