Kimball Wins Big, Loses Close At SPVA

Kyler Lusche Ties Mitch Brown's Steal Record from 1999-2000 Season

On Jan. 16 Kimball played third seed Perkins County in the SPVA Tourney and gave them a scare with the final score 47-50. Head coach Chad Miller said, "The boys played hard and cut their turnovers to under 20. Quite the back and forth game as neither team took more than a 6 point lead at any time during the contest."

Brandon Paxton had 23 points, including 11 free throws. Sophomore Kyler Lusche had 10 points and freshman Braxton Miller dropped in 9 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Longhorns were Bransyn Kiefer with 3 and Trevor Fuss with 2.

Play at the SPVA Tournament for the Longhorns continued when they were pitted against the seventh seeded Sutherland Sailors on Friday. The final score against Sutherland was Horns 72, Sutherland 50.

Paxton and Lusche combined for 41 point against Sutherland, with 22 and 19 respectively. Ryker Behrend had 11 points while Braxton Miller had 10, and Kiefer with 6. Wyatt Cords chipped in for 2 points.

Coach Miller said, "The highlight in the Sutherland game was Kyler Lusche's 10 steals in which he tied the all-time record set back in 1999-2000 by Mitch Brown."

On Saturday, Kimball returned to North Platte Community College to take on No. 5 Hershey, but lost a close game 52-54.

Scoring was a team effort against Hershey with Kyler Lusche leading the team with 15 points followed by Brandon Paxton with 11. Ryker Behrend dropped in 10 points and Kiefer with 8, Miller with 5 and Cords with 3.

The Longhorns will be in action on Thursday, Jan. 26, in Sutherland and Saturday against North Platte St. Pats at home. The JV will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
