Longhorn Boys Go 2-1 On The Week

The Kimball boys basketball team, flashing some nice play this season, continues its busy January this week with a home game Tuesday, Jan. 10, against Potter-Dix and road games 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Bridgeport and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Gordon-Rushville.

Going into the Potter-Dix game, Kimball was 3-5 overall and 1-1 in C2 District 12.

Here's a look at the squad's last three games, a stretch where Kimball went 2-1.

Kimball 54, South Platte 41

Jan. 4

The team played a 9-9 first quarter before the Longhorns outscored SPHS each quarter the rest of the way and won 54-41.

Coach Chad Miller said highlights included junior Brandon Paxton's triple-double with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 11 blocks. Miller said sophomore Kyler Lusche also added a double-double 14 points and 12 rebounds and jammed home the first "in-game dunk" of his career to put the Horns up 54-36.

Also scoring for Kimball were junior Wyatt Cords with 13 points and sophonore Bransyn Kiefer with 5. Freshman Braxton Miller led Kimball with 5 assists.

In JV play, Kimball beat South Platte, 42-19, in a game that went three quarters.

Kimball 73, Banner County 21

Jan. 6

Kimball opened an early lead and rolled against the host Wildcats. Coach Miller was able to give all 10 of his players 11 to 15 minutes playing time.

Paxton and Lushce again paced the Horns in scoring with 23 and 15 points respectively. Also scoring for Kimball were Cords and freshman Trevor Fuss with 9 points each, Braxton Miller with 8, freshman Ryker Behrend with 7 and sophomore Draco Miller with 2.

Leading the Longhorns in other categories were Paxton with 13 rebounds and 2 blocks, Kiefer with 4 assists, and Behrend and Cords with 4 steals each.

For Banner County, Brendyn Onstott led the Cats with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Chase County 68, Kimball 45

Jan. 7

The Longhorns kept it close, trailing 14-13 after a quarter, before CCHS pulled away for the 69-45 victory.

Kyler Lusche poured in 26 points, going 12 of 18 from two-point ranch and 2 for 2 at the line, to lead Kimball in scoring. He also led the team with 6 rebounds.

Also scoring for Kimball were Braxton Miller with 7 points, along with his team-leading 6 assists, and Cords and Paxton with 6 points each.

Leading Chase County in scoring were Easton Fries with 23 points and Kade Anderson with 21.
