Potter-Dix Boys Open Season Roaring Against Morrill Lions

Potter-Dix's Coyote basketball team started the 2022-23 season strong with a thorough 63-24 beating of the visiting Morrill Lions on Friday at Potter-/Dix High School.

After a 20-win season last season, the Coyotes looked sharp and ready to be the top of the class in D2 basketball.

The matchup against Morrill started out slow, with both teams playing good defense and having difficulty getting inside for easy shots. Potter-Dix was up 6-2 at the end of the first period, then started to loosen up their offense, passing the ball around and looking for openings to get inside. They had success, and started to go on a run and never looked back. The Coyote defense was stellar, disrupting and blocking lanes and giving Morrill very few good looks and forcing outside shots.

The Coyotes built a big lead by halftime and kept cruising, with senior Luke Kasten distributing the ball and knocking down shots all game. Senior Zach Rotert did a good job in the paint, putting in layups and pulling down rebounds.

Junior Brayden Kasten was a force on the court, setting the offense and playing tight defense all game. Luke Kasten led the scoring with 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Brayden Kasten scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Rotert and junior Caden McConnell each had 8 points in the win.

The Coyotes out-rebounded the Lions 51-23 and won the turnover battle 12-18.

Potter-Dix travels to Chappell Friday night to match up against the Creek Valley Storm.
