Boys Basketball Hopes To Rebound At Perkins

Kimball Loses To Bayard And Leyton In First Two Games of The 2022-23Season

The Kimball Longhorns boys basketball team hosts Perkins County on Friday, Dec. 9, and travels to Morrill the next day after opening competition this year with a win over Alliance in the preseason Hall of Fame Jamboree and losses to the visiting Bayard and Leyton teams.

The Lady Longhorns and JV also will play this Friday and Saturday. Start time is 4 p.m. against Perkins County and 1 p.m. at Morrill.

Bayard 68,

Kimball 58

The Longhorns were competitive against Bayard, losing 69-58 but outscoring the visitors 17-15 in the fourth quarter. The Longhorns were outscored by 5 points in both the first and third quarters, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Wyatt Cords and Brandon Paxton led Kimball with 16 points each. Cords went 4 for 8 in 2-point field goal range and 8 for 10 at the free throw line. Paxton also was 4 for 8 on 2 point field goal shots and wen 8 of 12 at the line.

Also scoring for the Horns were Kyler Lusche with 12 points, Bransyn Kiefer 7, Trevor Fuss 3 and Braxton Miller and Ryker Behrend with 2 each.

Off the boards, Cords and Paxton each grabbed 9 rebounds, followed by Lusche with 8 and Braxton Miller 7.

Kiefer and Lusche led the Longhorns with 3 assists each.

Trenton Marquez led Bayard with 18 points and 7 assists. Karter Winter had 8 rebounds.

Leyton 57,

Kimball 39

Leyton opened up a 19-10 lead after one quarter en route to a 57-39 win.

Brandon Paxton led Kimball with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Kyler Lusche was second in the team in both categories with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Also scoring for Kimball were Bransyn Kiefer with 6 points, and Wyatt Cords and Braxton Miller with 2 each

Bransyn Kiefer led Kimball with 3 assists.

Pacing the Warriors were Dillon Juelfs and Justin Ernest with 15 points each, Jonathan Kruise with 11 rebounds and Ernest with 5 assists.
