Housing Hub Gets County's Support

The Kimball County Commissioners approved and signed a letter of support Tuesday for the Kimball Housing Hub for the GBSD (Ground Based Strategic Deterrent) Deployment and Minuteman III Decommissioning project.

The prepared letter stated: “As Northrop Grumman works with the U.S. Air Force to prepare for and implement this project, the City of Kimball within Kimball County is uniquely poised to provide the ideal location for a housing hub.” The letter continued, “The City of Kimball has experience with the challenges such a hub create, and is already positioning to best meet those challenges through planning, zoning updates, infrastructure expansions and upgrades, and public safety investments.”

In bold letters, it stated, “Kimball County supports the construction of the Housing Hub within the City of Kimball city limits.”

A limited discussion was held on the support letter. Although recent annexations by the city have been approved or are in their third readings, no exact location for the housing hub has been released to the public.

In addition, the discussion about the letter indicated that the hub was to be on the edge of town, not up against a residential area, have easy access, and include 50-65 acres. It was also mentioned that grants for infrastructure were being investigated.

An update by KCTS administrator Christy Warner said Tuesday was the first day and a dry run of the operation of the Red Line of the KCTS between Western Nebraska Regional Airport in Scottsbluff and Denver International Airport. KCTS will operate that service seven days a week, leaving Kimball at 3:30 a.m. and returning in the late afternoon.

In other KCTS business, bids went out for two diesel vans and six Ford vans. The bids will be opened at 11 a.m. on Nov. 8.

Meanwhile, the commissioners voted to accept the Request for Qualifications for Community Building Solutions. The decision was tabled from the last meeting and involves work for the HVAC system, chiller, window replacement, and a remodel of the county clerk’s office.

The next Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15.
