Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

BACK IN THE SADDLE

From Hamburger Heroes To The 50-Minute Parade, What A Farmers Day!

It takes volunteers who make Farmers Day happen every year, and 2022 was no exception.

Many of the volunteers are individualswho have served the community for decades.

With over 30 years of experience organizing the hamburger feed, Bob Abramson has enlisted committed individuals to get the burgers into the serving lines. The Kimball cheerleaders helped serve the food, and Abramson was thrilled with the help of the football team to set up.

Abramson quickly mentioned all his volunteers, including this year's hero cookers Brian Williams, Steve Warner and Ryan McElroy. Cooking of the burgers took a little longer this year due to the wind, but Bob and his crew could serve 1,275-1,300 hamburgers in an hour and a half.

Farmers Day attendees thought the hamburgers were perfectly cooked and delicious, and the parade was one of the best and longest in recent years – 50 minutes.

If you missed the free pancake feed, the Red Knights are already planning for next year's event. The breakfast died during the COVID pandemic, and Panhandle Coop employee Mark Whetham said he asked the CEO and others if they would let the Red Knights take a shot at the breakfast. Panhandle Coop had struggled getting people to volunteer.

According to Whetham, "They were very excited about that and donated all the food for the event."

Volunteering is in the blood of the Red Knights. Whetham said it is a "way to get out and about in the community."

The parade winners were Ken Vincent in Farm Equipment. Horse category winners were Makayla and Makenzie Loy. The Red Knights won the Motorcycle award, and Jason Hanner and Walk for Vets topped the Organizations.

In the vehicles, Doug Loghry and Corvette Roadster were the favorites. Other winners were Joe Zrowka as the Bumble Bee, Trinity United Methodist Church, Schadegg Motors and Towing, and finally, 1972 Class Reunion.

Other activities included corn hole, horseshoes, demolition derby, salsa contest, book sale, music concert, movies, kids bike race and much more.
