Kimball Vs. Morrill: Battle Of Two Teams Seeking First Win

The Kimball Longhorns football team, a group that’s looking for positive steps in its comeback season, takes its rebuilding program on the road this Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Morrill.

The D1 District 11 matchup will be a battle of 0-4 teams in a 8-man play. The Lions lost 74-14 to Bayard in their last game.

The Horns go to Morrill after a 71-18 loss to visiting Perkins County last week. If you’re looking for a positive, those 18 points were Kimball’s highest output to date in the 2022 season.

Statistically, Kimball saw some decent numbers on special teams. Junior Derek Kauffman gained 10 yards on one kickoff return and senior Trey Schindler averaged 31.2 yards on five punts, his longest going 40 yards.

On the season, Kauffman is averaging 31.7 yards a game receiving, junior Brandon Paxton 19 yards a game rushing, and Ethan Evans 7.5 tackles a game.

After Morrill, the football Lonhorns host Bridgeport at 6 p.m. Sept. 30, visit Hemingford at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and host Bayard at 7 p.m. Oct. 14.
