'Tis The Season For Christmas Music?

Banner County

Good morning! here we are at the end of July. Wow, with only August left it sees like this summer has simply flown by.

I want it to last for about three more months, but know that won’t happen. We still have time for the lake, barbecues, gardens and music in the streets.

Bands on Broadway will feature “Avid Discord” and Kris Lager tonight, July 28th, in the 18th Street Plaza from 6-9 p.m., while at Chadron they will have Bands on Bordeaux, same time, in the Railroad Park.

The Western Arts Center will have a new show with the opening of the 2022 Presidents Show: ICONS winner exhibit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. also, on Thursday, July 28th.

A few days ago I heard what I thought was Christmas music on the radio. Keep in mind, I really like summer. However, I was right. It was an advertisement for some “Christmas in July” events, and as part of that I also found out the Midwest Theater is having a celebration on the 28th – Today! – of free Christmas movies.

At 10 a.m. there’s the ever popular “Polar Express,” at 11:50 a.m. it’s “Elf,” and at 1:40 p.m. comes “Christmas Story.” All movies are rated PG and as much as I love all three, you won’t see me there. It pains me to see the fall decorations in the stores already!

Out at the Monument, you can take in one of the Emigrant Experiences if you are there between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 29th. You can find the Ranger and the program out by the wagon trains along the Oregon Trail.

Further up the road in Chadron, the Dawes County Fair will be taking place beginning on July 29th and continue through August 6th. They will have rodeo, tough truck, and rubber check races along with much more.

The Scotts Bluff County Fair in Mitchell will begin the 31st and go through August 7th with similar activities. More information is available at scottsbluff county-fairgrounds.com.

On Monday, August 1st, again at the Scotts Bluff Fairgrounds in Mitchell, the 3rd annual Unite Night of Worship will take place beginning at 6 p.m. and involving 13 different area churches.

Morrill will host their local Farmers Market at the FOMO Park on August 2nd between 3 and 6 p.m. and back in Scottsbluff on Broadway the National Night Out celebration will be taking place from 6-8 p.m. The celebration will include a car show, games, food and music. For more information please call the Scottsbluff Police Department at 632-7176 or visit them on Facebook.

The calendar at Fort Robinson Post Playhouse is as such: the 28th at 8 p.m. “Something Rotten;” the 29th at 2 p.m., “Desperate Measures” and at 8 p.m. “Church Basement Ladies;” the 30th at 10 a.m. “Damn Yankees!,” 2 p.m. Church Basement Ladies, and at 8 p.m. “The Sound of Music.” On the 31st, the “Sound of Music” at 2 p.m. On August 2nd and 3rd, they will perform “Something Rotten” at 2 p.m. and the “Church Basement Ladies” at 8 p.m.

Well, hope you can find something to do other than work this week, and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts!

Take care until next time. Barb Cross at 438-7152.
