Plans To Build Multi-Unit Housing
Clean Harbors submitted the winning bid of $1,000 to purchase two lots combined (Parcels 530018519 and 530018527) across from the Kimball County Manor at the most recent Kimball City Council meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
The Clean Harbors proposal would “develop much needed multi-unit housing to support our need to attract 100 new workers to Kimball in 2023 and 2024.”
The Clean Harbors proposal is for an 8-unit, 7,000-square-foot multifamily building with units of 2 bedrooms, 2 baths of approximately 875 square foot each.
Brian Johnson from Johnson Construction submitted the only other bid for the properties.
Two public hearings were held – one on an application for rezoning from Linda Stahla. She requested that her property off of Myrtle Street on the North side of Kimball be rezoned from Residential Rural to Residential Mobile Home Park.
The second public hearing was an application for a conditional use permit for RV camper spots at the same location.
The council made the motion for approval of the application for 12 RV camper spots contingent on three readings. The area must have fencing and the issue will be revisited in five years. When council voted, it was a 2-2 tie with Gabe Ingram and Creg Pike voting nay. Breaking the tie, Mayor Keith Prunty voted to approve the RV camper spots.
Two business improvement grants were approved – 110 Chestnut received a facade makeover grant and TNA 1 LLC received $1,375 for the reimbursement of the improvements.
Shane Hays from Reck Investments requested $10,000 after improving the property at 205 East Highway 30. The project included new siding, roof, gutters and garage doors.
In other development news, Mayor Prunty mentioned that the Japanese restaurant opened and Family Dollar is moving forward, and City Administrator Annette Brower stated that a meeting has taken place with two property owners requesting annexation. She said more information will follow.
The next City Council meeting will be March 15.
