Hoping For A Fire-Free Week

Banner County

Good morning! I sincerely hope this week is fire-free. The fire that was in Scottsbluff County last week caused more damage and more smokey air for us to breathe.

We are several miles away and yet Thursday evening from our deck we could see a huge orange glow that didn’t seem all that far away.

Our thanks to our local firefighters that is for sure, plus many others. They sure have been busy this summer.

This coming weekend will be a busy one, too. Here at home the annual Farmers Day celebration in Kimball will be held the 24-26.

This year is the 95th year and will be celebrated with book sales, a quilt show, bike races, cruise night, a fun run, parade, cornhole tournament, and a glow disc tournament, plus a demolition derby and an air show at the airport.

The movie “Jungle Cruise” will be playing at the Goodhand Theatre on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Over the hill heading North, on Saturday the farmers market will be open in Scottsbluff between 8-11 a.m. There will be an art sale at the Western Nebraska Arts Center on both the 25th and 26th hosted by the Presbyterian Church and titled “How Great Thou Art.”

In Alliance, the Sandhills Center for Hope 5K run and BBQ will be on the 25th at 2 p.m., 817 3rd St.

The 5th annual “ End of the Trail” Kite Festival in Pine Bluffs will also be on Saturday the 25th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 1200 S Beech Street (CR 164 ).

On Wednesday, the 29th the Multicultural Youth Leadership Conference will be held at the Harms Center for local high school students, and for the junior high students the following day.

Here in the Burg, school will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Today! September, 23rd for parent-teacher conferences. Sure not missing that.

No School the following day, but there will be high school volleyball in South Platte at 4 p.m. and high school football at Creek Valley at 7 p.m.

On Saturday the 25th the junior high volleyball team will play in Bayard at 9 a.m. and again on the 27th at 4 p.m. in Minatare.

Also on the 27th the cross country team will be headed to Kearney, and that will be the last day of the Book Fair.

Next Wednesday on the the 29th the junior high volleyball team will play at home vs. Minatare at 1 p.m. and the boys will play at football game at 2 p.m.Safe travel and good luck!

Also on Wednesday, the 29th the Harrisburg Community Church invites junior high and high school students to “Ignite!” for the Youth Group beginning at 6 p.m.

Birthdays here this week include: Robin Brown, Rebecca Parker, Justin Griebe, Jadyn Cross, and Tom May. Happy Happy Birthday!
