We Can Not Thank The Firefighters Enough

Banner County

Good morning! I hope you are well and handling the smoke as best as possible.

Fire is always a terrible thing and at this point the fire just east of here has been at it for close to a week. Many firefighters have been on the scene 24/7. I am sure we can not thank each and every one of them enough. Hopefully it will be out soon. They seem to be keeping it pretty well contained at this point.

This past weekend was sure a busy one. The mini bull and mutton bustin’ at the Kimball Banner County on Friday evening was quite interesting, lots of fun.

The Scottsbluff County fair was fun too, nice exhibits, cute rabbits and of course the livestock. The Rubber Check Race was wild and woolly as always with a local young man, Regan Streeks making a great announcer.

Monday morning the Balloon Fest had delays due to the weather. Throughout the week there will be balloons in the air for the National Competition for the Balloon Federation of America.

Opening night for the public was Wednesday night for the night glo at WNCC. On Friday & Saturday the 13th & 14th the balloons will be at the Mitchell Airfield for the Mass Ascension from 5:30-9:30 a.m. There will be a craft fair from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and as that will be closing night for the balloons they will move to Five Rocks in Scottsbluff and be available for show 6-9 p.m. Up, Up, and Away!

County fair will be underway for Deuel County in Chappell from the 12th-14th to finish out the season.

The Trotters Synchronized Riding Group will be performing at Fort Robinson August 12-15 and for times please contact them at 308-665-2900.

The Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds will be up and loud again August 16-22 as the High Plains Riot rips up the track with motorcycles, rat rods, hot rods and custom vehicles. This is the 10th year for this event and more information is available at 308-641-3697.

Folks in Yoder will be celebrating “100 Years of Yoder” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 14 with memorabilia, speakers, stuff for adults and kids in the park, music and lunch.

On the 14th & 15 there will be another 100 year celebration, one of Ministry, at the Bayard Church of Christ. On Friday they will have meet & greet between 2 and 3 p.m, services at 4 p.m. and a hog roast at 6 p.m., and on Sunday services will be at 10 followed by brunch.

Here at home fall practice has started for school sports. School for K-12 begins Monday the 16th! Let the fun begin.

First year in forever I have not bought supplies or school clothes.
