Kimball Gearing Up For New School Year
The Kimball School Board received the Mary Lynch administrator’s report listing current enrollment. The largest classes for the 2021-22 school term will be the kindergarten class and the sixth-grade class, both reporting 40 students. The total registration for Mary Lynch is 221 students.
Mary Lynch will be debuting a new program called Moby Max. According to Principal Jamie Soper’s report: “We will put every student through a diagnostic test, and then the student will progress on this online program throughout the school year.”
Both principals were attending training in Arizona for Beyond Textbooks.
The Jr/Sr High Principal report provided a calendar for the first few days of school, including Aug. 17 for new hires, and certified staff will return to school Aug. 18-20. Orientation for seventh graders and new students will occur on Aug. 17, and students will return on Aug. 23.
According to the report, five students have registered for dual credit courses at WNCC, and no students have currently been enrolled in VALTS.
The superintendent’s report focused on the financial situation for the district. According to Superintendent Trevor Anderson’s update, 60.52% of the budget has been spent, with 92% of the fiscal year completed. Only 8% of the budget year is remaining, yet 39.48% of the budget is unspent.
The cash balance in the General Fund is $2,343,738.95. The cash balance in 2020 was almost half of the current balance, and in 2019, only $834,902.70 was left in the General Fund at this time of the year.
Under the action items was the discussion of the purchase of Edgenuity for $23,945.00. Edgenuity is a computer-based learning course for fifth through 12th graders intended to focus on learning deficiencies resulting from the pandemic. Although Esser III funds were earmarked for the purchase of Edgenuity, the school board tabled the matter to obtain more information on Edgenuity.
Monday, Aug. 16, the school board will meet for a budget work session. On the 18th. they will meet for a facilities work session.
Sept. 13 is the Budget Hearing and Tax Request Hearing at 6 p.m., and the regular meeting will follow.
