Fair Keeps 'Em Busy

Tuesday was the first day of the Kimball-Banner County Fair with the Fashion Revue and Clothing Judging comnpleted.

Horses were on the agenda for Wednesday as about 30 kids showed their horses, beginning at 8 a.m. and finally concluding the day at 8:30 p.m. The 4-H'ers did everything from halter, showmanship, reining, trail, western pleasure, western horsemanship, barrels and poles. But the most encouraging part of the long day was late in the evening when the 8- to 10-year-olds yelled encouragement for one another with statements like "you got this" and "way to run the barrels."

By Thursday, the fair was in full swing. Five exhibitors entered into the dog show while rabbits, poultry, and hedgehogs were shown late in the afternoon. The dogs and kids were surprised as they got a shower from the automatic sprinklers, but they didn't let it deter them from the task at hand. Pigs, sheep, goats, and beef were weighed in.

It was an early Friday for the kids as they began showing their hogs at 8, then it was onto goats, and Friday concluded with the sheep show. Trey Cook received Grand Champion with his hog, while Bailie Gilbert was awarded Reserve Champion.

In the goat show, Shelby Thurin received Grand Champion, and Makenna Thurin's goat was Reserve Champion. Britton Culek owned the Grand Champion sheep and market beef, and Brody Media received Reserve Champion.

Britton's sister, Aubrey, took home the Reserve Champion market beef. Saturday was Beef day as showmanship, market beef, stocker feeders, breeding, and bucket calves took center stage.

Entertainment for Friday was the Mini Bull Riding and Mutton Busting. A large crowd watched both events.

On Saturday evening, the PRCA Rodeo began with mutton busting in which all participants received a belt buckle. The PRCA Rodeo would conclude on Sunday afternoon.

The Parade of Champions was followed by a free hamburger feed for the community and an entertaining catch-a-calf contest with three young gals doing the catching.

Finally, on Monday, the 4-H and Market Livestock auction completed the Kimball Banner County Fair.
