Johnson 1st In Pole Vault; Allen-Van Pelt And Heeg Compete

Kimball's Longhorn track and field team sent a few qualifiers to the Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff on Monday – and enjoyed a few standout performances by the end of the competition.

The girls' squad finished 12th out of 24 teams with 15 points, while the boys squad took 19th out of 23 teams with a score of 5. The Scottsbluff boys team took top honors at the competition with 110.66 points, while Sidney's girls team placed first with 144.

Highlights for Kimball included:

• Senior Raven Johnson continuing her dominance in the pole vault, winning the event by clearing 8' 6".

• Senior Christian Allen-Van Pelt placing fourth in the long jump with 20' 02.75" and ninth in the triple jump with 37'8".

• Junior Kaitlin Heeg placing fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.12 and seventh in the triple jump with 32'11".

The Longhorns next compete at the SPVA Track and Filed Meet in Grant on Friday, April 30.

Ryker Behrend, as a seventh-grader, qualified in the pole vault.

Braxton Miller made sixth place with a triple jump of 33'3".

Addy Olson triple jumped 29'11.25".
