Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

WINTER PUTS LONGHORNS ON ICE

The winter storm system that hit the Panhandle area last week caused the postponement of two competitions for the Kimball boys golf team and the Western Trails Conference Track Meet.

A busy stretch now awaits both Longhorn sports programs.

The golf tournament in Bridgeport scheduled for Thursday, April 15, has been moved to Friday, April 23, and the golf tournament at Chase County scheduled for Saturday, April 17, will be rescheduled to a date to be determined.

The Longhorn golfers also were scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 20, at Morrill – but winter-like weather struck again this week on Monday and the meet was postponed. A new date was not announced at that time.

The K-Town golfers also are scheduled to play April 26 at Scottsbluff.

Meanwhile, the Western Trails Conference Invitational Track Meet that was planned for Saturday, April 17, also will be rescheduled. Two dates that were being considered were April 20 or May 10.

Also coming up for Kimball’s girls and boys tracksters are the George Calvert 2021 meet this Saturday, April 24, at Morrill and the Best of the West Classic on Tuesday, April 27, at Scottsbluff.

Weather wise – and that means sports wise, too – betters days are in the forecast.

High temperatures were expected to rise into the 50s on Thursday and Friday, 60s on Saturday, and then up to the 70s on Sunday and Monday.
