Kimball Panhandle FFA Capital For A Day

180 FFA MEMBERS CONVERGE IN KIMBALL

Students from across the Panhandle attended the District 12 FFA contest in Kimball on Wednesday. Over 180 students from 20 different schools participated in various competitions, including Meat Judging, Livestock Judging, Biotechnology, Nursery/Landscaping, AgriScience, and Agronomy.

First-year teacher Kortni Burnett brought 15 students from Bridgeport. She would have had an additional 20 students, but the Bridgeport basketball team made it to State and those other 20 students went to Lincoln for the tournament.

Kimball FFA had six students participate in the District contest. Grace Anderson, Alycia Vrbas, Landon Norberg, Julia Winstrom, Cody Brinkman and Hayden Sours participated in Meat Judging. Meat Judging includes taking a written test of 20 questions, judging cuts of meat on a slide show, then looking at the real thing and ranking those cuts of meat.

Hemingford Meats brought pork chops, T-bones, pork loins, and short loins for the more than 60 students to judge. Students can only participate in one contest for Career Development Experience at the District level.

According to Morrill-Mitchell FFA adviser Krystal Wilke, the State Convention will be held virtually this year.

"All contests will take place virtually during the last two weeks of March, with results being announced during the week of convention," she said.
