Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

More Reflections From Jake Reader, Jordan Greenwood

Former Kimball High School student athletes Jake Reader and Jordan Greenwood share their thoughts about Tom Southard below.

The support and care that Mr. and Mrs. Southard have given to the Kimball high school athletic community is unmatched. It didn’t matter what the sport was, you could always count on them being in the stands or on the field encouraging and cheering on every single student athlete.  I graduated 5 years ago and I still have articles that Mr. Southard wrote about teams of which I was a member.  I will cherish them and look forward to sharing them with my children one day.

Mr. Southard was not only one of my biggest fans growing up, but he was the ultimate Kimball Longhorn. Tom and Karen traveled the state alongside us, through the rain, snow, or shine. His presence always brought out the biggest and brightest smiles in our athletes, win or lose. I speak for myself, as well as many others who continued their athletic careers, that his passion for our success never ended. Whether it be missing a game winning jump shot, and him being the first thumbs up I see from the crowd, or making the 15 ft putt to win the tournament, and looking over to see him clapping in his Huskers golf cart, I am forever thankful for the memories we share.

May the fairways be forever green.
