Vera Grace Walker

Vera Grace Walker passed away March 29, 2020 at the age of 88.  She was born September 30, 1931 to Samual L. and Nora E. (Duddley) Short, in White County, Illinois.  She attended a one room country school through the eighth grade in Grayville, Illinois. 

She married Donald W. Walker on December 5, 1947. Don's job in the oil fields had them moving frequently. Before settling in Kimball, Nebraska in 1956, they had lived in Kentucky, Illinois, and Texas. Arkansas, and Pennsylvania. While the children were young, Grace did babysitting, ironing and sewing for others to help ends meet.

When the children were older she worked outside of the home at Kelley's Cafe. In 1973 she began her employment at George Risk Industries, working there until her retirement in December of 2019. She took pride in her work with loyal attendance. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.  In later years, she attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed sharing her piano talents and serving on church committees. Her love and appreciation of music led her to involvement with the Kimball Concert Association for many years.

She fulfilled her dreams of traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Her favorite pastime was watching baseball, ice skating and doing things with her family. She collected Mickey Mouse memorabilia and had an extensive collection of music boxes. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, two sons, Jeff and Dwight, one grandson, one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Deb Walker of Ainsworth, Nebraska, sons Donald (Mike) and wife Linda of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Keven and wife Kathy of Dix, Nebraska.  Daughter-in-law Susan Walker of Fort Morgan, Colorado. One sister, Laura Ramsey of Marion, Illinois. Two granddaughters, Kandice Dino and husband Joe of Decatur, Illinois, and Marley Houchens of Brush, Colorado. Three grandsons, Bryon and wife Tracey of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Dustin and Kyle Walker of Fort Morgan, Colorado. Four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
