Kimball Boys Third At SPVA Meet

A tough test for the Kimball High Cross Country Teams this past week as they competed in conference competitions on back-to-back days. The Longhorns were at Grant on Thursday to run in the SPVA Conference event, and the very next day they ran at Bridgeport in the WTC Conference race.

The Horns fared the best at the SPVA meet where the boys finished 3rd led by Matthew Johnson's 7th place individual finish with a season personal best time of 19:59.

Freshman Joseph Bremer also ran an all time personal best of 21:57 as Kimball's second best finisher. Connor Cluff ran 22:08, Xavier Thomas-Lewis 22:26, and Braylon Miller 22:46.

Chantel Malson was a medal winner for the Kimball girls running 9th in 25:11 with the top 10 runners in both divisions earning medals and getting All Conference honors.

Raven Johnson also had a strong day clocking 27:56, and coach Tiffany Johnson said, "I am very happy with Raven's efforts at Grant. She beat some girls that have been beating her and she gave a good effort."

Coach Johnson also said, "The boys are running well as a team and pushing each other. I like this and this is something we stress."

On Friday it was off to Bridgeport for the Western Trials Conference meet and perhaps with tired legs from the day prior, the results were not as good.

Matt Johnson was unable to finish the race at Bridgeport due to pain he suffered during the race. Cluff ran a better time of 21:57, Thomas-Lewis ran 22:49, and Miller 22:50. Malson ran 25:31 and Raven Johnson improved her time to 26:06.

A trio of junior high boys also ran at Bridgeport with Braxton Miller taking 3rd on the 2.5 K course in 9:51. Patrick Howard ran 11:09 and Trenton Hottell 11:09 as they finished in a dead, almost side by side, finish.

Now it is back to Bridgeport for the District race today (Thursday) with race time at 3 p.m. The top 3 teams and top 15 individuals will qualify for the upcoming state meet in Kearney on October 23rd.
