Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
The Kimball Longhorns football team continued its season of struggle, falling behind early and losing their sixth straight game against the Bayard Tigers at home on Friday.
The Bayard team got the jump early on the Longhorns, going up 28-to-6 in the first quarter and putting the Longhorns in a position to play from behind. As has been through the season, the Longhorns struggled to find any offense, trying to make big plays to come back while the Bayard defense stifled the Longhorn attack.
Bayard was able to move the ball through the air, with seven completions for 133 yard and three touchdowns, and their running game pounded the ball all day, gaining 243 yards on only 18 carries and cashing in four touchdowns.
Although the Longhorns played hard and made a few good plays, too many mistakes and four turnovers sealed the game for Bayard. Kimball had trouble spreading out the Tigers’ defense, giving up nine tackles for losses in the contest.
Kimball Head Coach Ben Aarestad commented after the game.
“We came out and made a bunch of mistakes early, and put ourselves into a 28-6 hole in the first quarter. The kids played hard all day, but it’s very hard to come back when you’re that far behind,” he said
The coach took some positives away from the loss, adding, “Hopefully the young kids are getting some valuable playing time and they realize they aren’t where we need them to be and work harder during the off-season. Looking forward to Hyannis, we need to eliminate the mistakes and try to get better each play.”
Kimball travels to Hyannis to take on the 1-and-5 Longhorns, and can hopefully get their first win of the year on Friday.
