End Of Summer School

For the past seven weeks, some Kimball students have improved their science, technology, engineering, math and literacy skills in the Elite Summer Camp. The morning program concluded on Friday the 24th of July.

Although the numbers of students enrolled were down from expectations, Director Caitlin Tabor said they served anywhere from 15-35 students a day, even during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The Elite program followed all the necessary COVID-19 regulations, but Tabor did stress that they "reminded the students a lot" about the social distancing.

Washing hands, ball sanitation, temperature checks and cleaning protocols were all the regular part of the school day and taken very seriously by the staff.

Entering first grade, Shaylee Markum, the daughter of Craig and Karissa Markum, was one of the youngest to participate in the summer camp.

Shaylee enjoyed the camp because she "learned lots of new stuff and was able to be with her friends." After finishing the Elite camp, the first grader is ahead of the game in math, as she already knows numbers that are divisible by 3 and 5. She concluded, "I like numbers."

Kyle Bohac, son of Megan Bohac, is preparing for third grade and likes the Elite program because "we get to eat candy."

Kyle has been working on telling time and counting money. One of Kyle's favorite parts of the final day was "Capture the Flag" with water bombs. Kyle got his physical activity chasing after the other team.

In addition to the academics, students participated in lots of activities, which included making ice cream, creating a water park project, geocaching, classifying rocks and painting rocks.
